Getting-Started-with-CAT-Tools-(1)

Getting started with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) Tools can be a scary decision, especially if you have just graduated from school or if you are simply not a tech-friendly translator.
At the very beginning, mastering the basic functionalities of a translation tool requires time and effort, and you may have had none of those so far. You may also wonder how this piece of software will ever make your job easier or faster when you still do not even know how to import and export a single document.

Let’s be honest, there is no way around it. Every translator now enjoying the benefits of computer-assisted translation has faced it at some point or another. Yes, we mean the learning curve that users of advanced software applications need to pass before they can see a return on their investment. But unlike designers, who are usually taught how to use Adobe technology (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) in the school, many translators graduate without this privilege.

It is always easier to learn and use the many features a translation tool offers if you first understand a couple of basic concepts in translation technology: What is a computer-assisted translation tool? How does it differ from machine translation? Is the translation memory part of the CAT Tool? How does it work? What is a 100% match? These are all questions you may have if you are a newcomer.

We have created an eBook that serves as a guide for translators embarking upon this journey. “Why use CAT Tools?” intends to shorten the learning curve and familiarize yourself with the basic concepts that will become regular expressions during your workdays once you get started with a translation tool.

PS: Do not forget to share the eBook with your peers and fellow translators!
