As part of our series introducing members of memoQ's Americas Hub, we interviewed Fabienne Parisien, who shared her journey to memoQ, her passion for translation technology, her hobbies, and more.
Hi Fabienne, please introduce yourself in a few words!
Hi, I am Fabienne Parisien, a multilingual native Montrealer. Trained as an art historian, I managed and directed several art galleries for a decade before pivoting into the world of technology a few years ago. I love connecting with people, exchanging ideas, and learning. The rapidly evolving world of translation technology, much like the art world, offers a wealth of opportunities to do so.
When and why did you join memoQ?
I joined memoQ recently, at the start of this year. I was initially compelled by the sheer enthusiasm and rave reviews I kept hearing from so many users over the years. I was finally convinced by the leadership’s inspiring vision and the remarkable individuals who make up the team.
What does your current position entail?
In short, I help those requiring a translation or localization solution - from seasoned translation professionals and their expert teams to newcomers to the world of translation - find the perfect fit and reach their goals by leveraging the right technologies.
What do you enjoy most about your position? While virtually every business has translation requirements, finding the custom solution that allows teams to collaborate seamlessly – not to mention change management – can seem daunting. Along with my expert colleagues, many of whom are skilled translators themselves, I enjoy helping build the ideal environment that makes the task of translating as effortless as possible while delivering exceptional results.
What do you like most about the translation industry?
As a multilingual individual living in a bilingual environment, translating is intrinsic to my thinking and everyday life. I often think about etymology, terminology, and how idioms are conveyed from one language to another. I have a profound respect for the translation craft and its rigorous practitioners. I find them to be curious, clever, and resilient individuals and a pleasure to encounter. I also deeply appreciate how the great need we have for translation drives technological advances and how those technologies facilitate connection and communication.
How would you describe the memoQ team?
The memoQ team consists of talented, experienced, and kind individuals who foster the company’s unique culture. With all due reverence to Groucho Marx, this is one team of which I am proud to be a member.
What are your hobbies?I am an avid reader and a keen enthusiast of the visual arts, and I continue to curate exhibitions and manage art collections. I also enjoy spending time in the great outdoors as often as possible and can be found gardening from March through October.
