As part of our series about introducing members of memoQ's Americas hub, we interviewed Inès Berbudeau, Solution Engineer and Trainer. She recently joined memoQ and shared insights about her professional background, the path that led to memoQ, her love for the industry, and more.

Hi Inès. Please introduce yourself in a few words!

Bonjour! My name is Inès Berbudeau and I am a Solution Engineer and Trainer for the Americas Hub at memoQ. I am originally from France. I moved to Canada almost 10 years ago and lived in Costa Rica and New Zealand before that.

When and why did you join memoQ?

I joined memoQ in September 2023. I spent the last 10 years working for various LSPs, both as a translator and a project manager. I first discovered memoQ in 2017 while looking for the next best CAT tool for my company. Being in charge of the implementation, I quickly saw the powerful features memoQ had to offer and my love for the tool has only grown. I came across the job posting for my current position on LinkedIn and could not believe the job description... it was describing my dream job. I applied and got it!

What does your current position entail?

I am mainly responsible for assessing our new clients’ needs and training their project management, translation, and terminology teams so they leverage the full potential of memoQ. I answer their questions and guide them throughout their training journey.

What do you enjoy most about your position?

I get to learn every day and share my knowledge, and I LOVE doing both. Before joining memoQ, I got to train dozens and dozens of translators and project managers on the tool. I realized I loved training people, guiding them through the whole process, and adapting my explanation to their level of experience with CAT tools and their specific needs. To answer our clients’ questions, I need to gain a deep understanding of a lot of aspects and features of the tool, so I get to learn something new every day.

What do you like most about the translation industry?

The translation industry is comprised of very passionate people who love to learn about the millions of subjects they translate. It’s also a resilient community of language experts who have learned the importance of taking advantage of artificial intelligence instead of fearing it.

How would you describe the memoQ team?

I am delighted to ride alongside such passionate people. No matter what team they belong to, you can feel their positive energy and their determination to build great things together as one team. I am grateful for the fabulous people I get to work with.

What would you suggest for prospective memoQ candidates?

Do yourself a favor and join a vibrant team like the memoQ team. Working in an ever-evolving field like translation technology is fascinating and very rewarding.

What are your hobbies?

Dance has always been a part of my life. I started dancing Cuban salsa when I was six. Apart from dancing, I also love reading and embroidering.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Coming to work for memoQ has genuinely been the best decision of my career.
