Alignment. A revolutionary tool of the early 2000s! Are you still aligning? What is your opinion?
I remember it so well: I was aligning the entire European legal corpus with my friend day and night – this way we could get way ahead of our competition. It was a nerve racking experience in the making and a fruitful resource at the end. However. Let's just talk about today.
At a time when a translator needs every bit of help to complete their job on time and in good quality, every little resource counts. If there’s a pair of documents, it seems we can’t afford not to align them and reuse the translations in there.
Do more than aligning!

There are two fundamental questions: How do we go about aligning the translated assets we have? (Is that necessary?) And what do we do with them once they’re aligned?
Juliet Macan of Asling is asking these questions in her LinkedIn post here:

You’re cordially invited to have your say in the discussion. Later this week, there will be a panel at the 38th Translating and the Computer Conference in London, where these questions and your comments will be brought to light, and discussed by a select group of industry veterans, among them our very own Balázs Kis.
After the conference, we promise to follow up on this and share our conclusions.
In the meantime, if you feel you are ready to share your thoughts, you can do that following the link we provided above, or simply make your comments below – we promise to deliver them to the panel, plus we will have a – hopefully – enlightening post about the findings in the following weeks:

The photo we have chosen for this post is created by NASA (thank you, NASA!), from the International Space Station. Here you can see a solar eclipse as seen from the ISS: the shadow of the Moon (aligning with Earth) is over Turkey and Cyprus.
